Construction is underway for a new PNC Bank branch in the former Blockbuster Video location on the corner of State Street at Huron Street. The branch is scheduled to open late January, 2011.

Blockbuster Video occupied the store at 700 N. State Street for nearly 10 years. This past summer, Blockbuster closed this location after the company entered into bankruptcy. In all, Blockbuster closed more than 800 stores in an attempt to reinvent itself and compete with movie rental rivals such as Netflix and Redbox.

PNC Bank, headquartered in Pittsburgh, is expanding rapidly in Chicago. This new branch on State Street will join nearby PNC branches at 877 N. Rush Street and 405 E. Grand Avenue.

The new branch of PNC Bank on State Street joins several retail establishments in the same building. The largest tenant is Whole Foods, which has its entrance on Huron Street. Famed chef Roy Yamaguchi's restaurant Roy's is several storefronts north of the coming PNC branch. ChiroOne Wellness Center also has an office in the building.
