I listened to the first set, and decided to talk to the female vocalist, who is a cross between Etta James, Janis Joplin, with a touch of Aretha Franklin, and Patsy Cline. Her name is Karen, and her voice filled the hall with songs from the 60's and 70's. She introduced me to Joe, who is guitarist and vocalist for the band. He told me they were from down the Cape Cod area, and there are 9 members in the band, and he considers their music to be "R& B with a little touch of soul".
Gary plays the organ, keyboard and vocals. Joe, the guitarist and vocalist, Lloyd is the bass man but also vocalist. Karen, besides vocalist, also plays percussion. Bob, the drummer and percussions also. Adding a touch of class to the band with the horns are Berke, playing the saxophone, along with percussion and vocals, Ty and Bill on the trumpet, and James playing the slide trombone.
They performed songs from a large rang of artists, from Jr. Walker and the Allstars, Wilson Pickett, Tower of Power, Al Green, B.B. King, Chicago, Ike and Tina Turner, Martha and the Vandellas, Earth Wind and Fire, and much more. Each song done with perfection. The crowd loved them, and many people got up and danced. The dance floor was full at times, and everyone seemed to be having a great time.
I accessed their website, and there are audio clips that you can listen to. Burning Love, Mustang Sally, Knock On Wood. All the old classic songs that everyone remembers and loves. http://www.pocketfullofsoul.com/mediaplayer.html
Pocketfull Of Soul is available to perform, and contact information is available on their website also, along with other information, upcoming shows, and a list of some the music they perform.
If you ever have the chance to hear Pocketfull Of Soul, I highly recommend that you do. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, because they'll have you on the dance floor before the first set is over.
