Poem: I Am Not a Perfect Mom

Beth Callahan

I wish I was a prefect mom,

Like those ones that I see on tv

Prancing about in beautiful clothes

So perfect and carefree.

They have behaved children

That never talk back

They have perfect bodies

And always have everything on track.

I am quite different from them

Oh no I am not the same

I stumble upon trouble

And have to pick which kid to blame.

I yell and am in disarray

I have a food stain on my shirts

And dishes in the sink

My whole body aches and hurts.

However today I realized

That I don't have it so bad

It took my 4 and 5 year old

To make me glad.

One " I love you", a wink

And a big smile was all it took

to realize I am me.

I don't want to go by the book.

I am the best I can be everyday

I do sometimes lose my head

But nobody is perfect.

I am off to get my lovely kids fed.

I like this poem a lot. And for me it is so very true, I can see so many areas I need to improve in. I don't even like to watch the shows with the perfect parents because I have never been able to achieve all they seem to have.
Perfect body perfect housekeeping, well behaved children and pets, income to buy anything needed or wanted etc etc.
Anyway I do like your poem I think it was very well written.

That was fun!! I like the comparative nature and that you accomplished rhyme at the same time!

Excelent job, Beth, and so humble, too. Actually, the only women I ever heard say something like "I was the PERFECT mother" were anything BUT!

Very insightful. The perfect mom does not exist! You did a wonderful job on this poem. :)

Very nice job and you are so right....we sometimes feel like, and do, fall short, but one hug, one "i love you"....it makes it all worthwhile.

i think you did a wonderful job on this really!i'm new at poems too and i thought this was lovely. love yourself and make yourself feel beautiful even if its just putting a new shirt on and some make up mant times i feel like i look like who did it and ran and lately my 2 boys have not been listening and its very stressful and makes me sad, but when they smile at me my stress is all gone, its not about the way we look its the love we have and receive from our children and family that keeps us going and strong. you sound like a great mom!!!

Very, very nice. I don't think many of us are the perfect mom, but I think we are great moms. One thing that you have to remember is taking care of yourself. Force yourself to look beautiful even if you are cleaning house. Do your hair and makeup and trust me you will feel so much better. A lot of times us moms forget about ourselfs, put a pony tail in our hair, grubby clothes and look like we are the house cleaner rather than the wife and mother and it doesn't make us feel good about ourself, as mothers or wifes. You sound like a great mom

Aww, how sweet. I think the most important aspect of parenting is that of love and dedication, not of looking perfect. It looks like you have the most important part down. Great job! :-)
