Poem: Damaged State

Sherri LaPonsie
Living on the broken side
With thundering threats
Against weak wills
And sure bets

A weakness held
Towards the bottom of the sea
Drowning simply
Inside the plea

A threat
And unjust intention
Spread like a disease
And airborne infection

Power you hold
To crush the young
Taking their trust
When they believe in some

A purpose held
Now born to hate
To live in life
In a damaged state

My dear one: You are not damaged and neither am I. Our little psyches were abused. Our little bodies were beaten. But damaged? No. We are whole, free, peaceful women.
