Poem, Ireland Dear Ireland
Ireland is a Land of Beauty and Also One of Tumoil; I Pray She Finds Peace
Oh Ireland, so dear and green and sweet
A place of so many gentle ways
Where your music delights the ear
Where penny whistle and harp plays
And yet not always peaceful
The "troubles" are not so far away
When life and time were wasted
And still haunts them to this day.
Where barriers divide the cities
Children still don't play together out of fear
Because their churches are different
And to do so might bring about a tear
Oh would they put behind them
And find that peace within their hearts
If only they could renew their roots
To try to find and make a happier start.
Ireland, sweet and green Ireland,
Land where from which my ancestor came.
Can you not find it in your heart
To forget divisions and pit away the blame.
And once again listen to your countries music
Shared by Catholic and Protestant alike
To reunite this old sod, we find most dear
Together once again, to bring back the light
Where leprechauns and fairy dance
Around preverbal pots of gold so bright
Bring back the smiles to children's faces
And forget about all the old reasons to fight.

Post a CommentI love your idealistic viewpoint. I also feel the same way about my homeland. I wonder, though, would there be those wonderful songs, if not for the strife they describe? Can't wait to read more of your thoughts on this beautiful land.
Ireland has certainly gone through so many trials over the years. It was always in the news in the UK, especially during the most horrific of terrorist activity and it affected so many people. I still have images of the atrocities committed both in Northern Ireland and on the mainland (Britain) etched in my mind.

Love it, I so hope to get there one day!
I have Irish blood in my veins, and this is a very inspirational piece. Great job.
Hopefully, we've seen an end to the worst of the violence in Ireland, robritt. It's a damned shame it began in the first place.
Being part Irish I can really appreciate this wish.
