Poem: McDonald's Ate My Soul

An Ode to Why I Hate Working Fast Food

Anson Brehmer
They took me from the pastures

Fed me on greenbacks

Fattened me on greasy food

Wrapped me in blue cotton

And black polyester

Pinned on a name tag

Herded me with This is the way it must be,

This is the way it's done.

Penned me in behind the register

Dazed me with shifting hours, too few or too many

Ground me down with daily routine

Force-fed me busy work

Fried up my free time

Placed the steaming patty of human will

Between a Sesame seed bun buttered with

Special sauce, with no onions or pickles

And nibbled my soul away
