Poem: Rain

C. Moss
You can always tell when it's about to rain
The smell is familiar to all of us
The air suddenly becomes ethereal and light
Sometimes the fog slowly sets in
And the sun begins to hide behind dark clouds
Goodbye sun; descending as it highlights the ground
And travelers are already seeking cover
The sky is no longer a brilliant blue
But a gray ghost haunting the sky
As your shadow tightly hugs your side
Even the wind picks a fight on this gorgeous day
Whispers of amusement passing through
A strange gust of air letting you know rain's on the way
Sending messages of hope shivering down your spine
Little goes unknown before the water comes
I like how rain appears to be crystal clear at first glance
A single drop of rain hitting your forehead
The chance to feel yourself floating in the sky
A token of kindness sets in; the sound of settling
Water covering the asphalt creating vast illusions
The puddles start to show everywhere they can
Ripples of courage paving the way into existence
Beads of water gliding down each blade of grass
You look up at the oversized shower upon you
Heading home in a rainstorm; an adventure to be had
Watching the rain fall from a reflective glass window
Nothing is more comforting to your thoughts
The aftermath is so incredibly soothing to all your senses
Not much has been untouched by the storm
You drift off into a slumber as the leftovers continue to fall
