Poem: Sweet Gifts

Swagger

H. Kris Thomas
Toss up prayers to the sky,
Lining the clouds in platinum.
Keep an upward gaze that never quits--
Fixed above and beyond.

Crush weaker thoughts,
Those bitter moments,
In a firm grip that leaves no room for ancient
Mind-trinkets that remind of sad times past.

Walk with a swagger--
All hips and waist and shoulders
With head held high--
So that you will catch every approaching
Gaze and smile.
Those smiles, those faces, those gazes are yours--
Your sweet gifts.
Take them and be grateful.
