The heavy things are worth the time and effort
Roll it around in your mouth
How does it feel under your tongue?
Play with crazy
The evanescent spectre that haunts you
That tucks itself beneath your pillow
And hides out
Alongside apprehension and dissatisfaction
The tortuous path to the toilet bowl
Is filled with obstacles that make you think
That tonight dinner should stay down
So should breakfast and lunch for that matter
But nausea is an unfair playmate
And feasting on lies and regret are bound to abrade the insides and give
Indigestion
Why consume so much of the mendacious?
Abridge the time between your crying and your crying
And, since you're good with tears,
Make weeping your new habit
Invite the world to step on your toes
So the tears flow more easily--
A saturnine river that is
Dessicated only when the going gets so rough
That liquid defeat absconds

Post a CommentVery awesome! I love the poem's title. "Toilet Bowl" grabs your attention right away.
Now that's talent: a flowing, tasteful poem about indigestion. Great work! :)
Eloquent.
So true that weeping can become a habit.
Very elegant and smooth -- reminds me of Baudelaire, with the graceful, beautiful language surrounding something dark and somewhat taboo: the toilet bowl. I like it! I like your line about playing with crazy. It resonates in different ways...
Heather,I found your poem is a very strong statement against self doubt and what that often leds to, it is visual and powerful!
ha! I'm still laughing lol....great (and not so pretty) poetry here!
The truth is not always pretty!Well crafted as always Heather:0)
