Who I Write For
I write for the players, who sit at my game
Week after week, sitting enthralled
At the game table, as I weave stories for them
I write for the nerds and geeks like me
We who share interests outside the mainstream
Anime, comics, video games
and other things normal people disdain
I write for the trees...
No. Not really. I kid.
Though I do sometimes wish
I could rhyme as well as Suess did.
I write for myself
My fears, sorrows, and rage
My hopes, dreams, and joys
My cynicism and wonder
I write to tell stories
To take people away
To explore new places
miles from the everyday
I write for my Mom (Hi Mom!)
Who encourages me.
I'd write for Dad, too
But he never seems to care.
I sometimes write horror
as a way to explore
The dark and the grim
The delicious shiver of fear
The creeping tingle
The lurking nightmare
Crouching, waiting,
RIGHT BEHIND YOU!
Boo!
Hee Hee.
Made you look.
I write because I'm much better
With words on a page
Than words from my mouth.
I write because I'm an artist
deep down inside.
I write to become better at writing.
For myself
For My friends
For my family
For those who would hear such stories
For everyone
For you.

Welcome and keep on playing!
Really enjoyed the honest & playful way you handled this piece, Anson. You remind me of our brilliant, geeky, role-playing gamer, fiction-writing son, Aaron. (And loved your Hi to Mom, of course!) ; D Read abt you in Donald's interview. Glad to meet you on AC! Wishing you well in all your creative endeavors!
