Poem: New Year's 2010 Resolution

Musings on Making a 2010 Resolution Achievable

Major Jester
Media rushes to remind us of the past 365
Retelling "top" stories of both the dead and the alive

Struggling to shed what we now want to forget
We fight against dwelling on the last year's regret

What do we imagine for the upcoming year?
Is our vision achievement or one laced with fear?

"This year will be different" so easy to proclaim
For parts of our lives we know need a change

Yet actions are daunting as we plot a new plan
Fighting hollow resolve: that bane of all man

How 'bout we step back from a hard and fast task
Take small steps this year to gain what we ask

Our goal may be lofty, a lifelong ordeal
But a step at a time, the result can be real

On the path we may stumble, thoughts of letdown erupt
Make failure's rod a support, not for beating yourself up

Resolutions are tough, both to name and the deed
But with patience my friends, yes we all can succeed
