Poetry Challenge of the Day: Sestina

John Smither
My wife asked me for the things that I love

When one of us is cold, we share so we both are warm

Walking along the beach across the sand

Looking up into the sky of perfect blue

Blowing in from the sea, a gentle breeze

Makes the incoming tide appear a little less calm

What keeps us so calm?

Yet allows us to show our feelings of love

Doesn't let us upset the breeze

Keeps our feeling inside all warm

Prevents our toes from turning blue

Yet allows us to run barefoot across the sand

Racing along the sand

Disturbing everyone's calm

The language is turning somewhat blue

Nobody is showing any signs of their love

The atmosphere is far from warm

It could be time to shoot the breeze

Today is quite a breeze

Kites are being chased across the sand

Despite the wind it is still warm

The sea is choppy far from calm

An adult watches the young flyers with parental love

The wind drops, likewise the kite, into the deep blue

Under the water, diving down deep into the blue

Far down here, away from the breeze

It is easy to feel natures love

Touching the bottom, disturbing the virgin sand

So deep all around so calm

You cannot fail to feel warm

Whatever you may do, as long as you are warm

Showing in your heart nothing blue

Whilst around you others may go mad, just stay calm

Flowing along on life's breeze

Writing letters in the sand

Expressing your feelings to the one you love

Speak clearly of your love, keep it warm

As you run across the sand, hand in hand, to a sea so blue

Creating your own breeze, amongst the calm
