Poetry: Little Things

M. NURRIZQI PUTRO UTOMO
The pollen in the flower,
That inspires growth -
The spirit that exists,
In you and me both.

The minutes that combine,
To make up each hour -
The votes that unite,
To give leaders their power.

The single grain of sand,
That helps compose a great beach -
The moral of the story,
That our instructors will teach.

The roots of the tree,
Providing the necessary foundation -
The very truths,
That built our great nation.

Each tiny tear-drop,
As it falls from the sky,
Providing sustenance,
For both you and I.

The author of a book -
The writer of a song -
The reasons for decisions,
Be them right or wrong.

The rules that we break,
When we don't play fair -
The feelings we hurt,
When we just don't care.

The molecules combined,
Creating each creature on earth -
Each miracle that occurs,
When a mother gives birth.

Each piece that makes up a puzzle -
Each brick in a home -
Each thread that goes into the blankets,
Our grandmothers have sewn.

The names of the soldiers,
That fight to protect you and me -
Each star on our flag,
That makes our lives free.

These little things,
That we fail to see -
We're just too busy,
You and me.

Yet these parts so small,
The littlest things,
They inspire such growth;
They give us our wings.

The parts, the pieces,
We just don't see -
We should pay more attention,
Both you and me.

For its these little things,
That create all that is grand.
So small so tiny,
Yet holdable by the hand.

For what is great,
Can in-fact be small,
For its the very beginning,
That creates us all.

Light as a feather,
Barely visible to the eye.
The little things we must notice,
Both you and I.
