Poetry: Making God Appear and Disappear

At Will

H. Kris Thomas
This heart disease runs in my family
In the vein of all humanity
We want to know where we're coming from
We need to know where we are coming from

The grieving heart
Bears grievances
Yells them at the top of its lungs
Cries when they go unanswered
Resorts to disbelief

And our inability to accept what is and
Our desire to determine what ought to be
Is a testament to the frailty
Of our selves
The piercing resolve
To attain creative control
From the Creator

And it's only in times of nightmares
When we are scared out of our brain waves
When our hearts stop in fear
That we turn to prayer
And senseless pleading
For hands besides our own
Wishing for holy hands
That massage a beat back into our smooth muscle
Believing that we've been granted the authority
To make You appear and disappear at will
