And I imagine that it could stand against the tumultuous waves
That thrash and crash against my ship,
Against my body.
As the storm rages,
As the winds blow,
I stand
Face to the wind,
Arms outstretched
Imagining that I could defeat
All feelings of fear and worry.
Closing my eyes
Under the dark clouds
Brings out the sunlight.
Screaming my prayers
Keeps my tears at bay.
Sometimes, though, while
Feeling the sway and rhythm of the sea,
I get lost in the stars that are scattered throughout
This dark, cloudy, velvet blanket pulled up over my head.
Then, my cold, blue fingertips
Signal that my prayers ought to increase
In frequency and in volume;
Remind me that I have got enough
That I have not been foresaken;
That I have not been lost.
I only choose to starve myself of goodness and light.
With newfound resolve I determine to believe that
I will not be overtaken.
Sick me, weak me, terrified me
Turning to my Sturdy Guardian
Who will keep me from the panic
That overtakes and strangles and destroys.
I find
Shelter From the storm.
My small ship will not over turn.
I am cradled and embraced-
Secured in the palm of compassion and hope.

Having Faith, Hope, and a Guardian Angel certainly helps. Good poem, Heather!
Very good. Self-awareness and the power of the mind are amazing forces the Western world seems hesitant to embrace.
Ahh, the last line is wonderful! :)
