Poetry: Suffer the Day

H. Kris Thomas
Suffer the day
My glee
Suffer my smile and laugh
My basking in the glow of the bright sun

Endure the calming winds
Passing over the trees
Through the window
Caressing the light, cream curtains
Making them reach
To the center of the room

Survive
The giddied jump and glide
The swing and step in time
Survive the beaded sweat
The pleasant exchange of energy
The exciting, exhausting sigh

Simplify the sequence
The thoughts that follow form
And point and nag and bully
What was
What is
What is yet to come

Suffer the night
Keep the soft scented tissue
Tucked beneath the plush
That suspends your head while asleep
Catching those dastardly tear drops
Before they touch your cheeks
