Points to Ponder About Preparing in Advance

Whether it is an interview, presentation, or even a deadline, you need to be prepared. Many people flaunt the fact that they have succeeded in an interview or presentation sans any preparation. The real truth is that they are mentally prepared to face the task at hand. Here is a list of drawbacks for not preparing well in advance.

Lack of planning and preparation leads to confusion. You do things in a hap hazard manner because you have not planned in advance and things are not organized according to your requirements. It is our responsibility to steer clear about priorities and organize things effectively.

You lack control on what you are doing when you do things in a hap hazard manner. When things go beyond control, you lose confidence.

When there is a decline in confidence levels, you will not be able to put the best of your efforts and abilities and your output appears mediocre. Likewise, when you are not confident, it adds to nervousness.

Nervousness results in showing a negative body language. Your presentation abilities will be marred and you end up making silly mistakes in whatever you try to do.

Negative body language spoils the impression that you create. Remember that the first impression is the best impression. The audience or the receivers of the message will no more be interested in your communication.

There will be a negative flow of energy between you and the receiver. When the receiver of the message also loses confidence, he pays little attention to whatever you say. This leads to frustration which ultimately builds up stress.

Stress ruins all the chances to excel in your endeavor. It is not just confidence that you lose in this process; a fear might also develop with regard to the activity (presentation, interview, or deadline).

All your fears congregate to construct a bigger fear that inhibits you from even attempting. Thus, your mind builds up a negative set of beliefs that you are incapable of doing something. You will get habituated to accept defeat even without ever trying to put the best of your efforts.

Without realizing your basic mistake of not preparing well in advance, you might end up blaming your genes and even the way you were brought up. You can prepare well in many ways. Organize your things so that you can carry off your work smoothly. Likewise, time your activities so that you are not confused about the order of activities to be performed. Time tables are used almost everywhere. While it might not be necessary for you to come up with a formal school like time table, it will be of some use if you can carefully divide your time to the different activities that you would like to perform. Divide your tasks into smaller sub-tasks that do not overwhelm you and might help you reach your goals easily. Mental rehearsal is another way in which you can prepare well when it comes to presentations or interviews. You can get a hang of the real situation and thus be fully geared for the moment of truth.
