Poison Ivy Treatment

So you know you some how came in contact with poison ivy but do you know how to treat it? Many people do not know the proper treatment for poison ivy and a quick response is the most successful response, so learning about poison ivy treatment before ever coming into contact with poison ivy is your best bet!

If you do come in contact with poison ivy, the first step you should take is rub the affected area with rubbing alcohol, the next step you should take is wash the area with water but do not use any soap during this process. You then should take a shower and during the shower you should use soap.

Keep in mind that part of the poison ivy treatment also involves treating items that also came in contact with the poison ivy such as clothing, accessories and shoes. Anything that could have possibly come in contact with the poison ivy should be washed down with alcohol and water.

Sometimes, a quick response for the treatment of poison ivy is not possible or maybe you are not even aware that you came into contact with poison ivy until you notice a rash with blisters and itching that follow.

Poison ivy treatments will vary depending on your skin sensitivity and how you react to poison ivy. Some people are able to wait it out and deal with poison ivy exposure without any outside intervention. At the other extreme, some people made need to visit their physician for a prescription treatment. Most people deal with poison ivy exposure by using some type of over the counter medication, ones that I remember as a kid that worked well and are still excellent choices are: calamine lotion, baking soda or oatmeal bath.

The best bet for poison ivy treatment is knowing what steps to take so that you are able to respond quickly to poison ivy exposure.
