Pokemon Still Exists!? An Overview of the Slowly Diminishing Anime Series

Ken Lyons
The animated series "Pokemon" continues to exist, and continues with a moderate level of popularity, despite the opinions of many that the show is stale and filled repetitive plot lines and an over-abundance of "Pocket Monsters."

Surprisingly, this over-saturated anime series still has a young following amongst those who play the card game or the video games.

After those who grew up with the once very popular "Pokemon" stop watching, children who are coming up from behind the older crowd start watching the series, and thus, continues what little popular energy that is backing the anime series.

Even the removal of the series from "Kids WB" didn't do anything to harm the show too much at all. If anything, placing the series onto "Cartoon Network" seems to give "Pokemon" just enough energy to live until viewers get absolutely sick of the anime series.

Just recently, Cartoon Network has announced a new television "Pokemon" movie, making its way to the screen ONCE AGAIN!

But for what purpose...perhaps to gain the final amount of dollars from the barely surviving series, or to cash in on a show that is almost like "American Idol" for kids!

Not that the show is terrible, but how much longer can viewers stand to watch this show...perhaps we have parents who believe that the more repetitive with less change in the format of the show, the better for the children watching such a series.

The main characters have only changed slightly, as did the voices, and the scenery is for the most part constant!

Each "Pocket-Monster" is essentially the same with different abilities, and such a continuation of plot and storyline where the characters continue to journey, then battle, then journey, then battle, can get a bit old.

Such a thought is not only damaging to the imagination of viewers (besides too much TV....feel free to laugh), but is also a stale form of animated entertainment.

Perhaps the final portion of the "Pokemon" life-span will cease to exist through the heaping on of newer animated shows on Nickelodeon, Disney, or Cartoon Network. "Dragonball Z" went the way of the do-do bird not too long ago due to the excitement and popularity slowly fading away, and "Pokemon" may be on the way to its final bout to try and "Catch 'em All!!"
