Poker is Not Gambling: A Game of Skill, Not Luck

Is poker gambling?

My daughter thinks so, and so do most non-poker players. But poker isn't truly gambling. A lot of people believe any game you play in a casino can't be beaten, period. This may be the case with most casino games, but not with poker.

The money that is won and lost by the players in poker comes down to those individual players' decisions.

Poker is a game of skill. If you were to play 50 to 100 100 hands, I would win the majority but if i played 10 hands to a novice he might win 50%. or more.On any given hand, anyone at the table can win, but skill is the deciding factor in the long run.

Math is a major factor and more and more college students and people ages 18 to 25 control the online gaming sector.

your emotions control just one of the many skill sets involved with poker. pot-odds, betting patters, and understanding how the game is played. There are a lot of people that have made a living strictly from poker for their entire adult life. You can not say the same for other games

Poker is a game that can be learned, &studied, If this was not the case then how do you explain how some world series bracelet winners have won as many as 10 bracelets.

Sit down one day and watch a table either in a casino or online and you will see repeated winners, unlike the other casino games.

More important the house(casino) does not care who wins and who losses.

It does not benefit them either way. so you are playing against others just like you with lesser skills

Bottom line: Poker, unlike other games, is a game of skill, math, good reads on people and your inner emotions.

I agree with Randy, there is a bit of luck involved too!

I tend to think it is mostly skill but there has to be some luck in the draw as well.
