Poker Ruled a "Skill Game" in Denmark

Wordsleuth
A Danish court has ruled that poker is a skill game and not considered to be gambling. The court was asked to define the game of poker because of illegal gambling charges brought against the president of the Danish Poker Association, Frederick Hostrup.

Hostrup was accused of organizing illegal gambling events and he was also sued by Horesta, a hotel and restaurant organization. Hostrup defended himself by saying that he was not guilty because the game of poker is not gambling.

The prosecutors in the case disagreed with Hostrup and his lawyers' position. The argued that while poker has elements of skill, it is merely played for monetary game and that it has the possibility of becoming addictive.

Under Danish law, a gambling game is defined as a game where the organizer is "attempting to achieve a commercial economic gain."

The Danish court agreed with Hostrup in saying that the game is that of skill and not a game of gambling.

This decision fully legitimizes poker in Denmark, where between 200,000 and 300,000 people play every week and over 500,000 people play on a regular basis.

While this decision will mean nothing to the current affairs in the United States, it goes a long way to legitimize the game in Europe. While online poker will still have to fight on in the United States, one day the example that Europe is setting may rub off on the US.

Jenny McCarthy a BlackJack Dealer

Jenny McCarty has been signed to deal some hands at the all-new Playboy Club on the top floor of the Palms Casino Fantasy Tower.

This is a very fitting role for McCarthy as she is a former Playboy playmate. She is not taking the job lightly, however, as she has taken dealer classes that have taught her important things such as how to deal the game and how to deal fast.

This will make McCarthy the first-ever celebrity bunny dealer at the Playboy Club.

Anybody who pays the cover charge to get into the Playboy Club will have the opportunity to sit at McCarthy's table. She will be dealing on Saturday, August 4th between 9pm and 12am.

McCarthy is best known for being in Playboy, but she also had a brief television show of her own, and she was a regular MTV personality in the early '90s. McCarthy is also dating Jim Carey and she is a New York Times best-selling author.
