On TV, poker professionals often buy insurance with their all in move. In the game of high stakes poker this is a smart bet that protect the player and allows them to continue playing even after a loss. However, this option has not been available to the every day poker player in places such as casinos.
Enter PokerSurance, co-invented and patented by Mitchell Cogbert, an optional insurance plan that allows casino players to stay in the game and play longer. This idea benefits both the casinos and the players as the house makes more money and the player enjoys the game longer.
Here is a typical example: You move all-in with pocket aces and are called by another player's inferior hand. However, the poker gods are against you and your aces get cracked. You are busted and leave the game. With a PokerSurance bet, when you are all-in, the dealer offers you PokerSurance. Now, if you lose to this player's inferior hand, you still win your PokerSurance bet. You can play longer and win more money. In other words, you are making two bets. One that you will win the hand, and the other that you have a better hand than your opponent. In effect, this keeps you in the game should a chaser accomplish his or her purpose.
While poker insurance has been around for decades, it was something negotiated on the side between the high rollers of poker; side bets, if you will. Casinos did not offer it to their poker players since they never figured out how to make money on it. A PokerSurance bet solves this problem as it sets up a consistent way for the dealer to offer an attractive wager for players, at a fair price. As a result, poker rooms can earn more and have happier players who play longer.
PokerSurance is available for on-line poker sites, casinos, and card clubs. It is a win-win for both poker rooms and poker players.
