Polar Bear Payback is a Flash-animated action fighter created by Newgrounds.com producer Adult Swim. This brawler type of game was submitted to Newgrounds.com on July 16, 2010 and received a Daily 3rd Place award on July 17, 2010. It currently holds a score of 3.94 out of 5.00 based on votes by the Newgrounds.com community.

Due to the graphic nature of this Flash game, it has been rated M for mature audiences only.

The game opens with a quick story about how the game storyline starts. Basically, a polar bear finds itself surrounded by a polluted area and decides to take matters into its own hands. For example, the polar bear decides to first take out seal killers.

When the game begins, you will take over as the polar bear. Attack enemies and avoid being killed.

Game Controls

Use A to use your basic maul attack.
Use S to bite your enemies. This not only attacks enemies but also helps heal the polar bear. To suck out life, simply hold the S button on your keyboard. Tap the S button again to spit your victim out. You will have to time and aim your bite attack to make this work.

Throughout the game, you will encounter boxes that can be destroyed with your polar bear attacks. Once a box breaks, an item may appear. To use an item, simply walk over it. If it is a weapon, use the A button on your keyboard to use the weapon. Other items will activate automatically, like speed boost or invincibility.

While in-game, you can view a few important pieces of information at the top of the screen. At the top-left hand corner of the screen, you can see a circular meter that encircles a polar bear head. When this meter is full, you will be able to perform a blitz attack. To perform this attack, simply tap either the left or right arrow key twice to charge in that direction. The polar bear will charge and attack anything in the direction you chose for a certain period of time.

To the right of the blitz meter, you can see the number of lives you have remaining. To the right of that, you can view your health bar. When this decreases, you will lose a life. To the right of the health bar is your current score. At the top right hand corner of the screen, you can see the number of enemies you have killed.

At the bottom-right hand side of the screen, you can mute the sounds. The game can be paused by clicking on the pause button located on the bottom left hand side of the screen.

Game Review

Polar Bear Payback is a mediocre game. The graphics are nothing to brag about, and it can be quite repetitive. However, there is a good range of weapons and other items that are interesting to use. The polar bear also has interesting abilities, especially the life-sucking ability. An upgrade system would improve this game greatly.
