The world is full of attractive new fitness trends promising to make you slim and fit in a matter of weeks. But very little of them are actually fun.

The latest fitness craze to hit the UK is Pole Dancing! Those people who are not so adventurous will be quite discouraged at the thought of pole dancing but it is not to be feared.

Contrary to popular opinion, pole dancing is not something that just goes on in sleazy gentlemen's clubs late at night. In fact the world of pole dancing as an athletic sport is far from the image most of us associate it with.

Pole dancing is in fact an amazing hobby that keeps you fit, is extremely fun and very athletic. It builds your upper and core body strength and generally does not involve grinding up and down a pole at all.

Pole Dancing is basically a show of pure stamina and some daring gymnastics. It also combines elements of dance and athletics. It really is a mixture of sports. Whilst it may not be for the faint hearted, women of any age or size can do it. People's general perception is that wafer thin women with incredible abs and stamina will be the main participators in this sport but it is quite the opposite. Women of all sizes and abilities are capable of doing it as the majority of the things that you learn are down to technique as oppose to strength and weight. Over time you build up your upper body strength and your abilities, so you really are capable of doing anything.

Learning to pole dance is built up into levels from level 1-10, level one being basics and level 10 being super advanced. You are taught in a safe and controlled environment by a qualified tutor. Class sizes depend on the size of the venue, but doing it with friends and family is fantastic fun for everyone. You may also get to meet new friends with similar interest, so it doubles as a great social networking event too.

Classes are mainly run weekly so you develop your skills gradually. Unfortunately venues are quite far and few between. Some gyms run classes other venues are specifically for the purpose of pole dancing. Depending on where you go some of these classes are quite expensive. Do not be put off though as there are people out there who charge a reasonable price for their tuition.

As well as haveing lessons you can buy poles for your home, to practice on, that can be put up and taken down within minutes and do not damage your ceiling or floor. On top of this there is a huge organisation of pole dancing competitions that take place all over the UK and the world, it truly is an up and coming sport and not just a fad. It combines a fun and interesting hobby with exercise and comes highly recommended.
