One witness, who wished to not be named, said the man, who was a dark skinned, dark haired man wearing a dark blue shirt and white shorts, followed three women and a 2-year-old child from the parking lot and around the park while they taught the child to hit a softball off a tee. She reported that every time the women moved to a new location the suspect moved with them as well.
The witness promptly notified the women, the grandmother, aunt and mother of the 2-year-old, of the man in the bushes and kept and eye out for the man who had moved when the women moved to take the child to the playground. The women called the Moorpark police around 11:30 a.m. and police promptly responded.
The police interviewed the women who were being followed who reported not seeing the man following them and admitted to not paying attention to their surroundings. They were more focused on playing with the child and didn't notice any of their surroundings at all.
After interviewing the women the police looked around in the bushes near the tennis courts but were unable to locate the suspect. The park is surrounded by many walking trails and a large open wilderness area and it is suspected that when the police arrived the suspect left the area via one of the walking trails so as not to be caught.
This incident is an important reminder to parents to be constantly vigil of their surroundings. Had the women in the above case not noticed the suspect in the bushes the women he was stalking may have been followed and attacked. When at the park it's important to stay in an area that is in full view of other people and if alone at the park stay close to your child and keep your cell phone handy in case of an attack.
If anyone has any information on this man and this incident or has had a similar incident happen to them at either Miller park or another park in Moorpark please call the Moorpark Police Department at (805) 532-2700 and report the incident to them.
