Two horizontal yellow lines on the edge of a road are there to say "No Parking" under no circumstances. Penalty is a fine, or loss of your vehicle. It should be blindingly obvious to anyone.
So imagine my astonishment when I read in the Daily Mail on Saturday, April 4th 2009, that not one, but two police cars, had parked on double yellow lines.
The incident happened in Westminster, London. The capital on my country, and the area where the people you run my country gather a The House of Parliament, and where my Prime minister resides at 10 Downing Street. It is also the where the police headquarters, New Scotland Yard, are based, which is where the cars were parked.
This might have been a prank, since it happened on Wednesday that April; April 1st, April fools! But then again not, because this was the G20 summit. No doubt parking spaces must have been scarce.
Yet, embarrassingly for the authorities, the incident was captured on camera, when two PCSO's (Police Community Support Officers) places fixed penalty notices on the windscreen of each offending police car. One of the officers cannot help but laugh as they charge their own police force.
The car belonged to the Metropolitan Police, and they told the Mail on Saturday that they would "contest the £40 fixed penalty notices only if the drivers have a very good reason."
