Police Drama "Blue Bloods" Focuses on a Fallen Officer

The "Officer Down" Episode Mobilizes the New York City Police Department

Approximately one month into the fall television season, "Blue Bloods" has distinguished itself in the Friday night lineup. The show follows the Reagan family, whose members uphold the law one way or another in New York City.

On Friday, October 15, "Blue Bloods" will feature the episode "Officer Down." As the title suggests, after a police officer is killed in the line of duty, the entire New York City Police Department tries to find the killer.

Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan on the show, participated in a recent conference call about this emotional episode. Wahlberg, who first came to prominence as one of the "New Kids on the Block," said "Officer Down" is a great episode and that he's really excited to see it.

When asked if the onscreen relationships carry over into real life, Wahlberg said that it is ironic how things turn out right when the casting is good. Wahlberg also said that he has a very, very great relationship with Bridget Moynahan, the actress who plays his sister Erin.

"While she (Moynahan) is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful women I have ever met, it is a very, very trusting brotherly/sisterly relationship," he said. "We're both single parents, we talk about all kinds of stuff off-camera. And we help each other a lot off-camera. It flows very naturally onscreen, I think."

When talking about co-star Will Estes, Wahlberg said it is like looking at himself when he was starring on "Boomtown." "I see him wanting to explore certain aspects of his character's story, as I did on 'Boomtown.'"

When he was Estes' age, Wahlberg wanted every single aspect of my character to come out in the first episode after the pilot. "The reality is with age and experience comes a little bit more patience. Of course, I want to get to it, but I am not desperate to get to it. In a perfect world, we'll have a couple of seasons to explore all of this stuff," he said.

Playing New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, Wahlberg said Tom Selleck really is sort of like everyone's dad on the set. I'm like a nutty kid on set, but Tom knows I am professional and I come to play hard every day," Wahlberg said.

"It's like Frank knows what Danny is. Frank puts up with Danny putting heads in the toilet the way Tom puts up with Donnie tweeting in-between takes."

"Blue Bloods" airs Friday evenings at 10 pm on CBS.

I'm a Magnum PI lover and Tom Selleck lover. Anything he does turns to GOLD. Magnum, Jesse Stone, Chief Frank -- ALL WINNERS. This show is GREAT. Naturally.

I've been hearing some good things about this show, but haven't seen it yet. Might have to give it a chance...
