Police Products: Should They Be Legal for Citizens to Own?

Manda Spring
It seems to be a growing trend for citizens to buy products that are illegal for them to own. That is the power of online shopping. It is utilized as the new black market. But regardless of whether it is legal or not, police products are in demand. You might think to yourself, "What police products would I really want?" Well this article can provide an in depth list of products and their uses so you can form an opinion of whether or not they should be legal for citizens to own.

Police Products: Garage Door Scanners

These products are designed to read the frequencies of a remote controlled garage door. It can find the signal and duplicate it for a person to gain access into a restricted or private domain. I am not sure why anyone would want something like this as it seems to me to be a blatant disregard of personal privacy. Furthermore the only buyers I could see wanting such a product would be a criminal.

Police Products: Traffic Signal Changers

Have you ever seen a car rushing to a red light and you wonder to yourself if they intend to stop only to have it change to a green in their favor, almost as if they anticipated it? Coincidence? No, it is actually a handy little product that emergency vehicles use to get to a situation quickly and (in most cases) without incident.

Most people that own this police product have it clipped to the visor in their car. They use it anytime they don't feel like stopping at a light. All of the motorists you encounter daily that have the urge to step on the gas and cut in and out of traffic want one and some do already. Is this a dangerous tool or an impatient person's ideal toy?

Police Products: Magnetic Strip Readers

This police product used to gain access to the information strips on a person's ID card can also read credit card strips and pretty much any others on a wide variety of cards in your wallet.

Personally, I can't see a reason for a citizen to hold this ... can you?

Police Products: What Do You Think?

What's your opinion about this? Should police products be kept for government use only or should everyone be allowed the same freedoms afforded to those in power? I happen to know a few people who think that "if the police can have them so should the public." This controversial topic will only grow in years ahead as more police products are made available. The question isn't whether it will, but which side will you stand on.

Only people looking to break the law would want access to these products. The traffic signal changer is just flat out dangerous, especially if engaged at the last second.

Not only do citizens not need these products, their primary function would be to break laws. But there is one police product I think everyone should own- those handy little thingies that let you back into your car once you've locked yourself out. :)

I can't see why everyday citizens would need some of these gadgets. Great article.
