"The kindly man will be blessed, for he gives of his sustenance to the poor." - Proverbs 22:9
And, finally...
"Rich and poor have a common bond: the Lord is the maker of them all." - Proverbs 22:2
Although America advocates freedom of religion, we are still a Christian nation. At least that is what our politicians want us to believe. Right now, as you read this post, Congress is proposing cuts to Food Stamps, WIC, and other social services that help the needy and the poor people in our country. Another program on the chopping block is Planned Parenthood, which helps low-income women receive cervical and breast exams, along with STD testing and birth control.
What irony! Cut a program that helps women prevent pregnancy, so that we don't burden the government with more welfare cases. What sense does that make? We know the Republicans are the biggest advocates against welfare. However, with their proposed plan, millions of women will get pregnant and, as a result, drain the federal banks dry by receiving more and more government assistance. Which, unfortunately, is another problem within the United States, but that topic of discussion will have to wait until my subsequent posts.
Our country is being run by people with more money than they have brains. Our country is being taken over by people who do not know what it's like to live on the other side of the spectrum. Our country is run primarily by men who think they know what is best for women.
Now, I am not by any means a feminist; however, there are problems within our country that cannot be solved by taking away from one group and giving it to another. There must be a balance. Democrats and Republicans are "fixing" the budget by taking away programs that affect the smallest percentage of people, instead of focusing on the bigger money-wasters, such as Defense and farm subsidies. Most politicians, on both sides, don't care about the "issues at hand." They care about lining their pockets with money and their dockets with votes. Therefore, their perspective is thus: They would rather lose the votes of the few rather than the votes of the many.
It is a sad state of affairs, because the votes of the few are the people in need of a voice to speak out. They are the people struggling on a daily basis to make ends meet. They are the hard-working, low-class people carrying the weight of the rich, powerful, and greedy.
God told His people to help the children, the poor, and the elderly. What are our politicians doing? Well, you have your answer, but do you have the courage to protect our most vulnerable? Is our nation filled with people who don't care what happens to his fellow man, as long as he prospers? That is not what history or religion teaches us. Jesus gave to the poor. Knights protected the poor. Twenty-first century politicians are taking away from the poor.
