Political Platform of Dennis Kucinich

Politics has become too much about popularity-contests and mud-slinging, instead of focusing on what is most important: What is his platform? What does he stand for? What does he intend to do if elected? Some research into the platform of Dennis Kucinich shows where he stands on the issues that are most important to the American people.

Direct and to the point, Dennis Kucinich has a "12-Point Plan" regarding the war in Iraq-- beginning with, but not limited to, "end the occupation, close military bases, and withdraw."

Dennis Kucinich is the only current presidential candidate who intends to implement a universal healthcare system, with all needs of Americans to be covered. He also plans for Social Security benefits to be guaranteed to all at aged 65.

While noting that making a constitutional ban on all abortions would be virtually impossible, Kucinich has been addressing this issue against the grain of 'right to choose' and, instead, emphasizing that measures must be taken to reduce unwanted pregnancies. His approach to this issue is to more strongly emphasize family planning and abstinence.

He intends to end the "Patriot Act," and restore citizens' rights to privacy.

Dennis Kucinich introduced the Federal Death Penalty Abolition Act to Congress in 2003, encouraging America to end the death penalty. He believes that life imprisonment without the possibility of parole is the best recourse for the worst criminal acts, but that there is no justification for taking a human life.

While he believes citizens have the right to bear arms, Dennis Kucinich believes that in the interest of safety and security, the control of firearms should be at the federal level rather than the state.

On the subject of domestic violence: "The safe place for the abused women, children, and sometimes men should be in their home. Taking the victims out of the home and putting them in hiding serves no purpose to anyone but the abuser. Forcing the victims into shelters only punishes them and rewards the abusers. It sends a message to the abuser that his behavior is acceptable. What we really need are shelters for abusers (specifically men) which are a combination of work release programs and rehabilitation centers. Both elements are necessary to solve this problem of domestic violence." (*)

He intends to significantly increase the federal minimum wage level; and also has the goal of free college tuition at state colleges and universities.

On the controversial subject of equal rights, Dennis Kucinich has stated: "I believe that equality of opportunity should be afforded to all Americans regardless of race, color, creed, sexual orientation or gender identity or expression. For that reason I support the right of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons to have the full protections and rights afforded under civil law including the right to marry the person of their choice." (*)

He has stated that the United States must invest at least $30 billion over the next four years for the global fight against AIDS.

It is clear that Dennis Kucinich is the best choice for President of the United States in 2008-- to make America as it should be, for this generation and those who will follow.
