Political Satirist Jerry Vasilatos Releases Impeach Bush Playing Cards
Complimentary Deck Given to Every Democratic Member of Congress
Vasilatos reportedly drew on the Bush Administrations use of the Iraqi Deck of Death playing cards that the Pentagon distributed to United States soldiers at the beginning of the conflict. That deck in addition to being a morale booster was meant to help soldiers identify Iraqi war criminals.
Vasilatos reportedly chose several issues that he feels Bush has mishandled during his years in office including: Hurricane Katrina relief, abuse of American civil liberties, and incidents involving the war in Iraq. Vasilatos assigned an alleged mis-deed to each card in the 54 card deck. The joker cards in the deck are reportedly characterized by President Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney.
To further parody the Bush administration's Iraqi Deck of Death, Vasilatos distributed a Royal Flush: Impeach Bush Now playing card deck to every member of congress belonging to the Democratic party. Vasilatos commented: "It's the least I could do in trying to send the message home since the majority of Americans feel like our cries are falling on deaf ears. Hopefully this might aid in getting their attention since we gave them a mandate for a reason."
Vasilatos current deck is not his first foray into satire delivered via playing cards but rather the third. The satirist's first deck is titled: The Deck of Republican Chickenhawks; that deck displayed a republican congressman that supported the war in Iraq but did not ever engage in their own individual military service. The satirist's second deck is titled: House of Cards: Deck of Bush. That deck was circulated during the 2004 Presidential election campaign and detailed 52 reasons why the creator thought that President Bush should not be elected, one reason was displayed on each card.
Vasilatos stated: "After seeing how successful my previous playing cards were, including the 'The Deck of Republican Chickenhawks' and 'House of Cards: Deck of Bush, it made sense compiling a final deck. The 'Impeach Bush Now' cards list everything President George Bush has done to betray our country's ideals and provides a handy reference from which people can demand accountability. It makes a great companion piece to pocket Constitutions."
