Politically Misaligned Science May Get Jim Enstrom Fired from UCLA

Lorraine Yapps Cohen
Jim Enstrom is about to be fired from UCLA. He blew the whistle on CARB. Neither CARB nor UCLA likes Enstrom. They're teaming up to silence his science, strip the man of his livlihood, and build an energy empire of CARB with the help of the kind of research they do at UCLA.

Why should we care?

James Enstrom is an epidemiologist at UCLA's School of Public Health and has been for nearly 35 years. He earned a master's degree in public health there, then a PhD in physics from Stanford.

He conducted research on diesel exhaust emissions, reporting the results that they have no effect on deaths occurring prematurely.

That wasn't the result that California Air Resources Board (CARB) wanted to hear. Instead, the enviroagency heeded another scientist, Hien Trans. The trouble with Dr. Trans was that he obtained his PhD from a cereal box, and Enstrom called him on it, right along with his CARB-friendly posture.

CARB got mad at Enstrom (to put it politely) and so did UCLA. After all, CARB wants to rule the environmental regime in California, and UCLA provides the science CARB needs to do that. It doesn't matter that it's bad science from bogus scientists. Whatever it takes. What it takes is relieving unprincipled organizations like CARB of principled people like Enstrom.

Why we should care

Enstrom's reappointment hearing occurs April 4-8. It will be a miracle if he's allowed to remain at UCLA. It will be another miracle if CARB subjugates its power to principle, especially when power can be bought from unprincipled academic entities.

We should care when they remove principled people from their positions in places of pure scientific investigation and higher learning in this country. Next, they'll be coming after us in our homes for what we think about what's happening to Jim Enstrom.

It could happen to you

Folks, if you haven't already, align your perspectives with the powers that be. Grow the fears they've placed in you about mostly everything in life. Fear, likewise, what they'll do to you should you diverge from political correctness.

This is how it starts. Think about it. If it happens to Jim Enstrom, it can happen to you.

My husband is a professor, so I have an understanding of how political a university is. The political groups may think they get their way, but eventually the physical laws of the universe win. Reality can only be denied for so long. That's what keeps me going--a conviction that truth always prevails eventually because it IS the truth.

Lorraine, I hadn't heard about this but I tend to agree with some of the comments here - it does ring familiar of the old Soviet Union - weeding out those who don't conform. Sad. cheers for the report

My understanding is that Tran still works for CARB. The only word for CARB is Corrupt.
