In a head to head match-up with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Giuliani gets 48% to Clinton's 42%. Former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson leads 49% to 43% and Arizona Senator John McCain leads 50% to 39%.
In a contest with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romeny, they come in tied at 43%
This is actually good news for the Clinton campaign, although being in the lead would better. Back in September, both Giuliani and Thompson both had a 16% lead over Clinton, larger than their leads are now. And Romney had a 4% lead. McCain's lead has remained the same.
In the Senate race in Alabama, it would that something momentous for a challenger to unseat incumbent Republican Senator Jeff Sessions. He leads his Democratic opponent, State Senator Vivian Figures by a margin of 62% to 30% with just 5% undecided. Sessions gets his support from 90% of the Republican voters and more than 20% of the Democrats as well as having a 2 to 1 advantage with the independent voters.
When they asked the respondents to give the Presidential candidates a favorable or unfavorable rating, the results showed up like this. Clinton has a very favorable rating of 27%, somewhat favorable 18%, somewhat unfavorable 11%, very unfavorable 41% and 3% are undecided. For Thompson it is a very favorable rating of 19%, somewhat favorable 37%, somewhat unfavorable 21%, very unfavorable12% and 10% are undecided. Next comes Giuliani at a very favorable rating of 19%, somewhat favorable 38%, somewhat unfavorable 20%, very unfavorable 19% and 5% are undecided. Romney has a very favorable rating of 11% , somewhat favorable 33%, somewhat unfavorable 28%, very unfavorable16% and are 12% undecided. And lastly there is McCain with a very favorable rating of 18%, somewhat favorable 41%, somewhat unfavorable 19%, very unfavorable 12% and 9% are undecided.
The President does a bit better in Alabama than he does with the national polls, having 45% who say he is doing a good or excellent job and 40% saying he is doing a poor job.
They gave the respondents a list of the candidates and asked them who they would invite into their home for Thanksgiving Dinner. Thompson would get a free meal from 25%, Clinton from 23%, Giuliani would sit down with 15%, Illinois Senator Barack Obama with 14%. Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney only got chosen by 6% each
Alabama voters are tough when it comes to illegal immigration. They have 81% who say that an officer should check to see if everyone they pull over for a traffic violation is legal and 78% who say if they are illegal, they should be deported.
