Poll: Ron Paul in 4th Place for Nomination

Z. Perry
Congressman Ron Paul, a Republican candidate for the presidential nomination, received an increased level of support from voters in a recent poll conducted in the New England state of New Hampshire, which will be among the first states to hold a primary.

According to a press release issued by the Ron Paul presidential campaign on Tuesday, the Congressman's support has increased to fourth place in a new poll of New Hampshire residents. It indicates that his support is now twice as much as it was in September, and he has surpassed other candidates like Fred Thompson. Also favorable for Paul, the poll found that fifty-six percent of Republican voters remain undecided.

The press release quoted Congressman Paul's campaign spokesman as saying that his support is rapidly increasing in the state of New Hampshire and throughout the nation. He pointed out that telephone polls, fundraising successes, and victories in straw polls point to Dr. Paul's increasing popularity. Three other polls which were released last week also indicated an increase in support for his campaign.

According to wikipedia.org's entry on Ron Paul, he is a Congressman in Texas and a medical doctor. While working as a doctor, he provided free or reduced price care to patients who could not afford it, and rejected payments from Medicare/Medicaid. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and the Duke University School of Medicine. He has also served in the Air Force, and previously ran for the U.S. presidency as the Libertarian Party's nominee in 1988, receiving the 3rd highest number of votes. In his current presidential campaign, he has received a great deal of support from internet users, who have accused the mainstream media of marginalizing him. He strongly opposes the elimination of the Gold Standard, saying that it has taken away value from the U.S. currency. He is married to Carolyn Paul and has five children, three of which have also become doctors.

Ron Paul's campaign web site provides an overview of how he has voted on various issues as a Congressman. It indicates that he always opposes congressional pay increases, internet regulation, raising taxes, greater power for the federal executive branch, and gun ownership restrictions. He voted against the Patriot Act and authorization for the war in Iraq. It also states that he has rejected participation in the pension program usually provided to Congress members, as well as part of his office budget.

    "LOL... 8%, that's a pretty strong fourth. :)"

You may be overlooking some factors. Check out what percentage of registered republicans can usually be counted on to actually show up at the polls, and remember than Rep. Paul's turnout will be safely 99%. New voters are registering to get involved in this campaign, and I will be proud to cast my vote for him, something I haven't been able to say about a candidate for many years. 8% is only the tip of the iceberg that is sticking out of the water. You haven't even seen the rest of it yet, because your beloved media won't show it to you. They think the American people can't be trusted to act in the best interests of the rich and powerful. I'm betting that they're about to find out that they're exactly right.

Thank you for the coverage, Mr. Perry. A lot of people are finding out about Dr. Paul for the first time and are amazed at his honesty and allegiance to the Constitution. Another article I read this morning led me to the following web site:
    http://www.ronpaulforums.com/
Which is a discussion forum for Paul supporters, including the private citizen who bought a full-page ad in USA Today today (Wednesday) out of his own pocket. The video at this site is very enlightening and inspiring. I think Dr. Paul will surprise a lot of people. His own party is afraid of the limited federal government policies he espouses. That, in and of itself, deserves attention. We all rail about having nothing but the lesser of two evils to vote for every election. This time, we do have an opportunity to vote for someone who rejects the deceptive, sound-bite approach to government that the TV generation has become so disillusioned with.

8% isn't bad when you consider how many other candidates there are and how little media attention he gets.

If 8% is the number and that is funny to you; then what about the rest of the pack coming in behind Paul, like the highly touted Fred "TV" Thompson? Now that's even funnier.

    LOL... 8%, that's a pretty strong fourth. :)
