Polling Pains

The Uphill Battle Has Reached It's Peak

I set out not with any huge expectations other than to help inform and inspire people not unlike myself that have become disillusioned with the political world, and today it comes to a very anti-climactic stand-still. As our workweek continues and people line up at the polls, I find myself anxiously sending out last minute text messages reminding people to get out there and vote. But, when I receive texts back from people telling me they may not have time today, I find myself disgusted and frankly insulted. By asking people to go out and vote I shouldn't feel as though I'm asking a favor of people. I'm honestly just trying to help people do something for themselves.

Whether you vote Democrat, Republican, or even write-in vote Darth Vader, using the right to vote is the most patriotic thing you can possibly do, and there are millions of people around the world that envy that right. When you push aside your voting rights you also push aside your right to complain about anything for the next four years. Don't come whining to me next year when Obama raises your taxes, or McCain bombs Syria. Don't be surprised if Gay Marriage rights are overturned in California. And certainly don't expect to have a political debate with the issues I write about if you can't even take the time to vote on them.

I realize not everyone has the passion for the political mess we call our government, but at least have a passion for the quality of your life. Take some initiative in our country and get out there and be heard. It's your privilege, not only your right.

And if you didn't vote, you have no right to say anything!
