Everyone had heard about how Barack Obama and Clinton have been neck in neck, through debates, polls, commercials, and campaigns, these two politicians have been trying desperately to get the break through and finally stand up to the other, being the obvious democratic party nominee. This has not been the case though for several months now, leaving most democratic party members clueless as to who they want to vote for on their own party. Finally, though, the democratic party may have a nominee that has begun to rise and take stand for the party. Who is that person? Clinton.
In a new recent national poll concerning the 2008 Democratic presidential nominations, Clinton was up an overwhelming eighteen percent compared to her other running mates. According to the new poll, Clinton has 41 percent of the votes, up next is Obama with 22 percent, and former Senator John Edwards with 11.5 percent of the votes.
So is Clinton finally taking the lead in the Democratic party after such a close race? Her rivals in the race do not want to hear that she is running her way into a big lead. They think that this race is far from over, which indeed this is true, but also feel that this national poll is nothing to go by and the results are inaccurate as well. Both Obama and Edwards have noted how the national polls have produced skewed resulted in the past and they do not think that this poll is any different.
"I think Hillary is the front-runner but not the front-runner she thought she was going to be when this race started. She was supposed to be this colossus striding over a field of pygmies. But instead she's in a hand-to-hand battle with one very ferocious competitor and a couple others breathing on her heels," said Backus.
Clinton is taking these results with pleasure but still stresses the need for the Democrats to join and unite. She realizes that this race is competitive and her run mates want to win as much as she does, but negative commercials and debates against one another in the same party is not doing the right thing. She feels that in order for the democrats to win the election beating the Republicans, the Democratic nominees must stick together despite who is up or down in the polls.
"You know, I've noticed in the last few days that a lot of the other campaigns have been using my name a lot. But I'm here because I think we need to change America. And it's not to get in fights with Democrats," Clinton stated.
Though national polls do indeed shape up a majority of votes of citizens in the United States, they are indeed not always correct. A more recent example is in the 2004 election the polls marked John Kerry as 5th runner up and that clearly was not the case. As for Clinton, she is definitely in the lead but she still has some tough competition and the nomination is clearly not hers just yet.
