Located on The Fairmont Kea Lani Maui resort property and just a moment's walk from Polo Beach, the Polo Beach Grille and Bar is the place for poolside dining in Maui. We were guests of The Fairmont Kea Lani when we dined, however the refreshing poolside restaurant and bar are open to the public. We believe the swim-up bar and pool areas are for guests only, but you can always ask!

Here, we will give you the full run-down on the Polo Beach Grille and Bar menu. Get money-saving tips and honest, unbiased opinion on the food right here in this Maui hotel restaurant review. The Grille is open from 11am until 5pm, and the Bar is open from 10:30am until 6pm daily.

South Maui Hotel Restaurant Review: Polo Beach Grille And Bar - Fairmont Kea Lani - Maui, Hawaii

Whether seated in the shaded, outdoor dining area, perched atop a submerged bar stool at the swim-up bar, or sunbathing poolside in your chair, you can indulge in all the Polo Beach Grille and Bar have to offer just as you are. Hotel guests, simply raise the little blue flag on your sun chair for service. Don't expect anyone to trip over themselves to get over to take your order, though. The Fairmont Kea Lani pool staff are attentive and friendly enough, but please remember, you are on an island. Island Time is a concept best embraced the moment you land at Kahului Airport.

You can find a full Polo Beach Grille and Bar menu linked here on a great site called Maui Info Source. When we dined at PBGB, we paid our own way and did not let on we were there to review anything. We sampled many items to have a good base for recommendations, and here is what we came up with.

First, check your budget at the door. You pay for the convenience of eating in your lounge chair, basking in the Hawaiian sun, and you pay dearly. Luckily, the food is delicious! Specifically, we highly recommend the Coconut Prawns ($21), the Kalua Pork Quesadilla ($16), the Polo Caesar Salad ($25), the Polo Chicken Wings ($16) and the Pineapple Sorbet ($7). A kid's menu, or Keiki Menu, is also available, and includes Macaroni & Cheese and other popular children's selections.

Polo Beach Grille and Bar Review: Menu Highlights, Tropical Mixology and More

The Coconut Prawns, served with lemongrass aioli sauce, will serve one person, with perhaps one giant prawn left to give away or trade to a salivating companion for a taste of their food. The Polo Chicken Wings and the Polo Caesar Salad come in generous portions, and the duo make a perfect light, affordablelunch for two. The Caesar Salad comes with fish or chicken, but with delicious freshly-caught seafare such as Ono or Mahi available, why would anyone choose chicken? Try the Ono if possible; it is one of the most delicious eating fish on Hawaii, or possibly anywhere. The Kalua Pork Quesadilla makes a great early, budget-friendlydinner option before the Grille closes at 5pm.

The Polo Beach Grille and Bar don't just produce yummy food; they mix up a mean cocktail, as well. The Lava Flow ($12.50) is a deliciously refreshing, if calorie-rich, way to relax poolside. A mix of pineapple juice, bananas, coconut cream and strawberry puree, the Lava Flow is served complete with the required little paper umbrella, garnish of pineapple and an orchid floating on top. Poolside perfection. The best part? You don't even have to get out of the pool to indulge.

Money-Saving Bar Tip: In Hawaii, at least at the resorts, it seems to be the law of the land to measure shots to a painful level of accuracy. When ordering a Lava Flow, or any drink with light rum for the alcohol, ask the bartender to substitute Bacardi 151 high-octane rum for the Hana Bay Light Rum they typically use. Do not order a double! The charge for a double is $9 more per drink. For a cocktail that practically requires a $20 bill to pay for to begin with (including tip), we'd like to know it wasn't a virgin one.
