Pontiac suspect allegedly used beer bottle to torch neighbor's home

Weird news across the country has one common theme

A 42-year-old Pontiac man is charged with one count of arson for allegedly igniting a Molotov cocktail at a neighbor's home on July 4. Two witnesses told police the suspect was upset because the neighbor owed him $20 and had refused to pay. The container of choice for the Molotov cocktail, perhaps symbolically, was a 20-ounce beer bottle. The suspect is charged with a single count of arson.

Reports do not indicate whether the man first had consumed beer from the bottle, but in various ways, suds do seem to make their way into some of the most offbeat, quirky and weird law enforcement stories.

Consider that just this year, on Jan. 9 in Davidson, N.C., police were called to apprehend a man who was pushing a Harris Teeter shopping cart filled with beer down the middle of a side street. Authorities indeed discovered $131 worth of beer (Bud Light, Coors and Icehouse) and charged the 43-year-old fellow with misdemeanor shoplifting.

In April, a beer distributor in Columbia, Mo., sent 1,500 cases of expired beer to the local landfill. City administrators said that soon after, they learned after watching videotape that a pair of sanitation workers had hauled some of the cases away.

Wild and wacky beer stories go beyond those TV commercials. Some happen in real life.
