Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie: Educational Activities and Games for 2 to 5 Year Olds

Rebecca Hayes

Let's face it, kids love movies, but it's been proven that they should watch no more than 2 hours of TV a day. So why not combine their love of a movie and activities that will help them learn and grow? Following are suggestions for the movie Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie released in 2005. These activities would also work well for preschool classes and party games for this age group.

Watch the movie

Let your kids watch the show while you prepare the activities for the rest of the day or attend to other responsibilities.

Rhyme Activity

Teach your child these rhymes.

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate (hold up five fingers)

First one said, "Oh my, it's getting late." (wiggle one finger)

Second one said, "There's witches in the air. (wiggle next finger)

Third one said, "We don't care." (wiggle next finger)

Fourth one said, "Let's run, and run and run." (wiggle fourth finger)

Fifth one said, "Oh it's just Halloween fun." (wiggle fifth finger)

But whoo went the wind and out went the light (clap hands when you say out)

And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight. (roll your hands)

Read a Book

There are a lot of incredible books available to go along with the movie Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie. Pick one you think your child would enjoy and involve them while you are reading. Ask them questions about the pictures and story. Following are a few suggestions of books to read.

  • A Pumpkin for Pooh (Disney Winnie the Pooh) by RH Disney, Frank Berrios, and Gus Alavezos

  • The Night Before Halloween by Natasha Wing

  • Corduroy's Best Halloween Ever! by Don Freeman and Lisa McCue

Indoor Trick or Treat

Put some crackers or pretzels in a bowl. Offer your child a basket or bag. Let them dress up and then go trick-or-treating inside. You can be in one of the room's of the house and your child can knock and say trick-or-treat. You offer some of the crackers or pretzels. Your child can play as many times as they would like. When you are done your child can eat the crackers or pretzels as a snack.

How to Catch a Heffulump Plan

Offer your child some crayons and a piece of paper. Tell them you are going to make a plan on how to catch a heffulump. Let them come up with ideas on how to get the heffulump to come to their trap and what type of trap to use. Help them draw pictures in order so that the paper shows the steps of the plan. This activity helps children understand sequences and order, as well as the concept of planning. When you are done you can pretend to carry out the plan.
