Poo-Pourri Bathroom Odor Eliminator Helps Freshen the Air

"There once was a young lad from Rhone
whose odor he'd rather disown
now he's taming his poo
by anointing the loo
and now happily sits on his throne!"

This was the poem inscribed on the bottle I picked up while browsing the local card shop. "Poo-Pourri" was the product name, and with a picture of a cherub playing a plunger while sitting on a potty, well, how could I resist?

The idea of Poo-Pourri is to spritz the patent pending mix of essential oils into the toilet before you go to avoid embarrassing bathroom smells. Unlike other deodorizers that are sprayed into the air only after the deed has been done (often making matters worse), this one traps the offending odors before they ever escape the bowl. The result is a bathroom that smells like citrus instead of number two; or, like flowers and number two as is the case with air fresheners,.

The manufacturer or Poo-Pourri claims this product is all natural, non-toxic and biodegradable. Supposedly, it is safe for use with a septic tank.

Visiting the website I discovered there are several scents beyond the original lemony variety I picked up. There's No. 2, described as a sweet bouquet of Mandarin, Bergamot and Orange. There's HeavenSCENT with white jasmine. And then there's Royal Flush, a more masculine scent with eucalyptus and spearmint.

Additional Poo-Pourri products are the aptly named Dia-Pourri, designed to be sprayed on diapers prior to disposal in the wastebasket, and Pooch-Pourri, a pet odor eliminator.

Personally, I have not tried any of the products beyond Original, but besides being clever and absolutely adorable, this product really does work! It comes in 8 oz, 4 oz, and 2 oz bottles (the latter being perfect for sicking in your purse and using for emergencies away from home). Also available are personal wipes and gift sets.

So, if you want to make the claim that your poo doesn't stink, Poo-Pourri may be the product to try. As it says on the bottle "spritz the bowl before you go and no one else will ever know."
