Pop Music News Weekly: March 1st, 2011: Christina Aguilera, Reba McEntyre, Lady GaGa and More

John Myers
Welcome once again to Pop Music News, a weekly wrap-up of some of the more noteworthy news items from the world of popular music. This week we move to Tuesdays with an all new feature highlighting what's hot in music right now. Stay tuned for new additions to the series in upcoming editions. In this week's issue:

Christina Aguilera "Technically" Arrested for Public Intoxication

The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department has confirmed that pop singer Christina Aguilera was arrested early this morning on a misdemeanor charge of public intoxication. Aguilera was a passenger in a car driven by boyfriend Matthew Rutler, who was pulled over at 2:45 under the suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Rutler was arrested for DWI and Aguilera who was said to be "incapacitated, but fully cooperative, "and a representative from the department says there is no intention to prosecute the star. The pair was released early this morning once Aguilera was able to "navigate and think on her own" and Rutler posted $5000 in bail.

Reba McEntyre to be inducted into Country Music Hall of Fame

Today the Country Music Hall of Fame announced this year's inductees: singer Jean Shepard, songwriter Bobby Braddock, and the perennially popular Reba McEntyre. The 55 year old singer, actress and all around entertainer has been making sweet music since May 1976, when her song "I Don't Want to be a One Night Stand" became the first of many to hit the country music charts. In a career spanning 35 years, Reba has won many accolades for her work, including the Academy of Country Music's "Entertainer of the Year" Award in 1994, and this one is the icing on the cake for the country music superstar.

GaGa's latest

Earlier last week, Lady GaGa unveiled the video for her much-hyped smash "Born This Way." The song doesn't actually begin until nearly half way through this 7-minute video, and is as uniquely artistic as one might expect from the controversial, but ever-popular artist. The theme of the video is the creation of a new world, but to me it somehow gets lost in its message somewhere in the dance sequences. You can check it out for yourself right here.

In other GaGa news, the singer reported on her Facebook page that she'll be making her first appearance ever as a runway model in fashion designer Thierry Mugler's fashion show in Paris on Wednesday, March 2nd. Word is out that previews of her upcoming second single, "Judas" will be featured at the show.
