Pop Music News Weekly, March 22nd: All Star Relief Album for Japan, Chris Brown Storms Off GMA Set, Disco Diva Loleatta Holloway Dies

Welcome once again to Pop Music News Weekly, a weekly wrap-up of some of the more noteworthy news items from the world of popular music. Here's the scoop:

Pop stars lend their talents for Japan relief

As reported earlier today by Associated Content from Yahoo Contributor Julia Bodeeb, several big name musical acts are lending their voices and talents to put together a digital relief album to help those victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Included in the work will be contributions from Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and U2, with possible additions from Lady GaGa, Jon Bon Jovi, and Nicki Minaj. Read more about it from Julia here.

Chris Brown outburst after GMA interview

R&B singer Chris Brown stormed off the set in a rage this morning after a Good Morning America interview during which he was asked several questions about his notorious felony assault charge two years ago on then girlfriend Rihanna. Brown's newest album, "F.A.M.E." was released today and was the reason for his appearance on the show, but GMA host Robin Roberts asked questions about the 2009 incident, prompting the singer to become agitated.

Once the interview had finished, Brown performed a song from the album, but stormed off the set before singing a second, previously scheduled tune for online viewers. He retreated to his dressing room, where he is said to have gone into a rage, smashing things. He removed his shirt and stormed out of the studio and into Times Square.

The singer, Roberts and ABC took to their respective statements public later on in the day, Brown tweeting angrily about how inescapable his past has become, while both Roberts and the network insisted that the questions were appropriate. What do you think?

Dance diva Loleatta Holloway dies

Disco singer Loleatta Holloway was pronounced dead earlier today after what her manager Ron Richardson called a "brief illness." Holloway had recorded disco songs throughout the 70's, but she really hit it big in 1980 with her #1 song, "Love Sensation." The singer returned to the mainstream twice a decade later, featured on Black Box's "Ride on Time" in 1989 and Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch's "Good Vibrations" in 1991. She was 64 years old when she passed.

Maybe he should have thought about how inescapable his past might become before he did what he did. I think he deserves everything he gets with regard to the negative. It's called Karma.
