Pop Music News Weekly, May 4th, 2011: Glee Concert Film; Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon Become Parents

Welcome once again to Pop Music News, a weekly wrap-up of some of the more noteworthy news items from the world of popular music. Here's some of what's been happening this week:

New 3D Glee Concert Film coming in August

Billboard Magazine is reporting that the upcoming concert tour by the cast of Glee will be made into an all new feature 3D film. Fox studios and Glee creator Ryan Murphy will be teaming up to bring the experience of the Gleesters live to fans everywhere. The movie will be shot from tour dates around the country during the months of May and June and will be released for a limited, two-week engagement beginning August 12^th.

On May 21^st, members of the hot television show will be embarking on a North American tour across America, with one date scheduled in Toronto, Canada. Demand for tickets has been so high that promoters have had to add new dates and additional matinee show times to appease some of the most crazed Gleeks. The movie will enable people who can't get to a show to see it in the next best way, through an "immersive 3D experience."

The 2011 tour will be the second summer outing for the Glee cast, following a highly successful, albeit short concert tour last year. Demand has been high for tickets to the upcoming shows ever since the tour was announced in February and both Fox and Murphy clearly saw the Glee movie as an opportunity to get the show out to a larger audience and there's no doubt it will be highly successful.

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon welcome twins

Pop diva Mariah Carey and her husband, rapper Nick Cannon, became parents on Saturday, April 30^th with the birth of twins, a boy and a girl. Coincidentally, Saturday was also the couple's wedding anniversary and Reverend Al Sharpton dropped by the hospital to preside over a renewal of their wedding vows. The couple earlier today revealed the names of their newborns. Their son was named Moroccan Scott Cannon, after the place where Cannon first proposed to Carey, and their daughter will be called Monroe Cannon, after actress Marilyn Monroe, one of Carey's favorite actresses.
