Pop Starlet Jessica Simpson and John Mayer Break Up

The on again and off again couple Jessica Simpson and John Meyer is officially over. Rumors speculated when Simpson arrived to the Cannes Film Festival sans Meyer. The couple had been dating for nine months. Meyer, 29 and Simpson, 26 have often denied their dating status for months before making it official in March during a romantic rendezvous in Italy, where they kissed and held hands.

Meyer even got a seal of approval from Joe Simpson, who is notorious for being over protective of his daughters and might have been a source of tension between Simpson and Nick Lachey, who she had been married to before dating Meyer. Simpson rose to stardom with the MTV hit show, "The Newlyweds" in which chronicles the married life of Simpson and Lachey.

According to People Magazine, Simpson and Meyer have known each other for many years before they became an item. Simpson had also been linked with Jared Leto and her Employee of the Month co-star, Dane Cook but nothing had been official since her divorce from Lachey in 2005. The couple played coy for couple of months until March; then Simpson was seen canoodling with Meyer while on his tour in Australia. She was often seen with him on Byron Beach where they engaged in many public displays of affection.

Simpson is currently in Cannes promoting her new movie, Major Movie Star, a military caper. The film starts shooting in July, and the location will be in Louisiana. When asked about the split in Cannes, Simpson replied, "I am very happy, but I don't really want to talk about my personal life tonight because it's not what it's about. But I am very happy. I will let you know that." Meyers didn't seem to be fazed by the break up as he was seen partying at New York hotspot, Stereo until four in the morning. He drank two glasses of Jack Daniel in the VIP room with his friends. He is not currently looking to date anyone presently.

Simpson and Meyer have ended their romance for now, but it might not be for good. A source from People states, "They have broken up, but they have broken up and gotten back together at least 10 times before." They have since been e-mailing and talking since Simpson's arrival in Cannes. Reps for both Simpson and Meyer refused to give a comment.
