Is she an angel? Or maybe a tree hugger?
Charleston's Angel Oak Tree on John's Island is the ideal location for popping the question to the love of your life. The Angel Oak Tree is a live oak and is believed to be oldest living thing east of the Rocky Mountains at 1,500 years old. Its mammoth size, serpentine-like branches and shade create a fairy tale setting to propose.
Is she a beach babe?
Folly Beach makes an ideal location for popping the question to your beach babe. Walk hand and hand down Folly Beach and propose under the Edwin S. Taylor Fishing Pier, a wooden structure where the waves lazily roll in. Or, propose above the beach on the pier overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
Is she a comedic clown?
If the two of you laugh often and much, make your proposal public with the help of Charleston's The Have Nots! at Theatre 99. The Have Nots! is an improvisational comedy troupe and the longest running show in Charleston. They rely on audience participation to make their act even funnier. Contact them in advance to see if they can help you in popping the question.
Is she a goth gal?
If you and your gal enjoy the dark side, the best place to propose is the Unitarian Church in Charleston's Churchyard on Archdale Street. Yes, it is a graveyard, but not too creepy. The headstones are weathered and slightly tilt with age. Depending on the time of year, grass may be overgrown and various flowers are in bloom. A bench or two dot the churchyard, setting a romantic-goth mood for popping the question.
Is she a history buff?
Charleston's most romantic location for popping the question is no doubt the historic Battery Walk. Stroll along the harbor where the Ashley and Cooper Rivers convene to form Charleston Harbor and an important site of Charleston's Civil War history. In adjoining White Point Gardens, a gazebo makes an ideal spot to propose. Or, walk through the nearby neighborhoods with their grand, antebellum homes and Civil War history. No matter where in the Battery, popping the question will be a historic moment
Is she a Southern Belle?
Nothing defines the South more than a plantation and Charleston has many options for popping the question. Magnolia Plantation and Gardens was founded in 1676 and is the oldest public gardens within the United States. Something is always in bloom and there are multiple pretty spots to propose, especially Flowerdale, the Biblical Garden and the two wooden bridges over the primary lake. Other plantations for popping the question include Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens and Middleton Place, which has a romantic restaurant open for dinner and the Inn at Middleton Place is next door.
Is she a tea junkie?
Charleston Tea Plantation is the ideal spot for popping the question if she prefers tea over coffee. Outside the small welcome center sits a porch with lovely rocking chairs. Or, wander near the growing tea bushes to propose.
While there are many romantic spots for popping the question in Charleston, keep in mind her personality when finding the perfect place to propose.
