Popular Dog Names

Move Over Spot and Rover

Merry Strong
Just like baby names, popular dog names tend to change from year to year. But there are certain dog names that have remained at the top of these popularity lists, for a much longer period of time. So, the next time you find yourself in need of just the right name, for your new pooch, please consider the following information.

You may think that 'Spot' is still the most popular dog name, in existence, today. (After all, many of us can still remember, "See Spot, see Spot run", from our early elementary years.) But, surprisingly it's not.

Over the past few years, human names have, again, placed high on existing lists of popular dog names. This is due, in part, to the fact that most humans do not think of their dog as just a pet. They consider these animals to be cherished members of the family.

Popular names for male dogs continue to be 'Max', 'Buddy', 'Jake', 'Charlie', 'Jack' and 'Sam'. If your dog is a female, popular names include: 'Molly', 'Maggie', 'Lucy', 'Abby', 'Brandy' and 'Misty'.

Many pet owners make the decision to name their dog after an exhibited personality trait. Popular choices remain to be 'Angel', 'Bear', 'Lucky', 'Lady', 'Cuddles', 'Princess' and 'Rebel'.

Some dogs are given names based on their breed. Whether your dog is of Scottish, French, Irish, Italian or German decent, there is a popular name that will fit the bill.

Scottish dogs are commonly named 'Bryce', 'Bonnie', 'Armstrong', 'Maisie', 'Murdock', 'Peyton', 'Scotty' and 'Ramsey'.

Popular Italian dog names include: 'Gino', 'Aldolfo', 'Ghita', 'Marco', 'Paolo', 'Carmella', Rosa' and 'Ernesto'.

When choosing a popular dog name, for any breed, remember these three simple tips. (Your dog will love you for it!)

Don't give your dog a name similar to another family member, especially if they reside in the same household. It will cause less confusion, at dinnertime.

Decide on a popular pet name that is easy to pronounce and won't embarrass you when you are calling your dog.

Last but not least, don't choose a name that rhymes with or sounds like a popular command. Again, it will cause less confusion, for your dog, when it's time for training.

Deciding on the perfect name for your dog is something the whole family should be involved it. Armed with a list of popular names and a little creativity, you should have no problem coming up with just the right one.
