Here Are Some Old Wives' Tales Gender Prediction Methods!

Matthew Schieltz
There have been many gender predictions over the years that claim to be able to predict whether you are going to be having a girl or a boy. Some of these Old Wives' gender predictions are absolutely ridiculous, while some of them claim to be able to predict the gender of your baby with fool-proof accuracy. Most mothers and fathers probably would love to know the sex of the baby that they are going to have way before the birth or even the ultrasound of the baby that can sometimes determine the gender as well. But, like all Old Wives' tales, these gender prediction methods probably need to be taken with a grain of salt before they are given any merit as to whether they actually work or not. Here are some of the more common gender prediction methods that have been around for decades:

Swing, swing, wedding ring!

This gender prediction method involves the use of your wedding ring. The wedding ring should be placed on a sewing thread while the mother lies flat on her back. The wedding ring is then held in position over her body and the pregnant woman should be able to tell which direction the wedding ring is swinging. This gender prediction method says that if the wedding ring swings in a circular pattern then the sex of the baby is a girl. However, if the wedding ring swings back and forth then the baby is going to be a boy. There is one issue, however, that this gender prediction method does not take into consideration. What happens if the ring does not swing in a specific way? What will the prediction be then?

The Carrying Method!

This Old Wives' gender prediction method actually makes a little bit of common sense. The sex of your unborn child is determined by the way the pregnant woman is carrying the child. If the child is being carried high in the woman's womb then it is certain to be a girl. However, if it seems like it's being carried low then the assumption that it is a boy. Even though this is one gender prediction method that seems like it has the most common sense, it still is not extremely accurate.

An Unusual Gender Prediction Method: Draino, Draino, What Do You See?

A strange gender prediction method that sounds crazy enough not to be true involves the use of Draino and your urine. Draino crystals should be bought and placed into a glass jar. Your first morning urine should be used and it should be poured directly onto the urine into the glass jar. However, you better stay back in case a harmful smell or unusual reaction occurs between the two. After about 15 seconds the Draino should change colors. If it happens to turn a brownish color then you are about to give birth to a baby boy. If the Draino doesn't change colors, then you're having a girl. I, personally, don't know of many people who have tried this method, and would be a little wary before I went out and bought some Draino crystals specifically for this method.

Chinese Gender Predictions

One of the better known gender prediction methods to figure out whether you are having a girl or a boy has long been a Chinese tradition. The Chinese gender prediction method comes in the form of a chart which takes into consideration your lunar age, as well as the month of conception of your baby. Both of those are factored in when you look up to see whether you are going to have a boy or a girl.

All of these gender prediction methods have been tried and tested by many pregnant women across the world. The most accurate gender prediction method, however, remains the use of the ultrasound. With the better and newer technology that ultrasounds use, doctors are able to see more accurately than ever before whether or not you are carrying a precious little girl or boy. The Old Wives' gender prediction methods, though, are fun to perform and actually work in some cases. But they should not be held as truth since the sex of your baby might just turn out to be what you didn't expect!
