Parents, relatives, and others who are shopping for teenagers during the holiday season may be curious as to what is hot and new in the video market. While the Xbox360 has been out for a year now and the Nintendo Wii is coming out in November, the ultimate gaming system on the market is due out by the end of November. The Playstation 3, or PS3, is eagerly awaited by the millions of people worldwide who are devoted to the Sony series of gaming systems. The Playstation 3 allows its users to use games from the first two versions of the system, so buying the system for your teenager does not mean that you have to get rid of those old games. However, the high definition capabilities and greater graphics of the PS3 mean that some of your teenager's old favorites are given a face lift. This PS3 video game features all 32 of the NBA's team as well as all the basketball fan's favorite players, including LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Yao Ming. However, NBA 2007 isn't just your run of the mill basketball simulation. This new PS3 game allows the user to download weekly "Games of the Week" and scenarios from the 2005 NBA season in order to recreate their favorite plays by their favorite players. As well, this PS3 game is great because it features a variety of miniature games so that your teenager and their friends can play a quick game before heading out the door. These games include a skills competition and 3 point shootout that are great complements to the regulation basketball games. For basketball lovers and those who want a challenge, the PS3 video game NBA 2007 is a great choice.

Tony Hawk's Project 8

As one of the most rapidly growing sports in America, skate boarding has really taken off among middle school and high school students. One of the heros of this sport is Tony Hawk and his series of video games through Sony Playstation has been incredibly popular among teenagers. His new game, Tony Hawk's Project 8, is available as one of the new PS3 games out in time for the holidays. All of the best aspects of Hawk's prior offerings are placed in this PS3 games, including a variety of skating venues and tough competition from computer generated players. However, Project 8 benefits from PS3's high quality graphics and increased speed and this PS3 game is the best of the Tony Hawk series. Teenager players can play against skilled amateurs in this game with the end goal of winning a place on Tony Hawk's fictional Project 8 skate team. As well, they can customize their skateboard and apparel in order to make their gravity-defying skate board moves look even better.

Need for Speed Carbon

Teenagers are often obsessed with cars and speed, considering they are just getting their driver's license and often use jet skis, snowmobiles, and dirt bikes. However, those who want to keep their teenagers safe but let them express their love of speed should buy the new PS3 game Need for Speed Carbon. The Need for Speed series has been a great successful for Sony Playstation and the PS3 version will not disappoint. Teenagers can customize their vehicle to an almost endless amount of colors and shapes, with PS3's updated morphing technology allowing more customization options than ever before. Once they get their ride ready to go, teenagers can assemble a racing crew from a variety of computer characters and then race against rival crews to take over the city. As well, players can go into the canyons to engage in races and chases with rivals and police, giving teenagers a fun outlet for their need for speed.

Madden 2007

One of the most popular video games of all time is the Madden football series, which started out on Sega Genesis systems and has evolved through the Sony Playstation platform. Named after announcer and former Raiders coach John Madden, Madden 2007 is the peak of excellence in this series of games. Madden and announcer Al Michaels continue to provide play by play calling and game play is similar to past years. However, several innovations in game playing make this a great PS3 game for your teenager. The Lead Block control allows offensive players to break open bigger running lanes for their favorite running back. As well, the Hall of Fame player mode allows teenagers to live out their pro football dreams from the NFL draft through retirement. Madden 2007 is a great first purchase for teenagers receiving their new PS3 system.
