This has to come under the "I can't believe it" category. According to an article on www.cnn.com the porn industry is going to ask congress for a bailout. Here's the take on the situation seems that as much as the rest of the country falls into an economic slump the adult industry has begun to feel the pinch.

With more and more American's losing their jobs it would seem that they are setting their priorities and they don't include spending it on pornography. Accordingly Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis announced that they would be asking congress for a $5 billion bailout by then end of business today. When asked if they thought that their business was I danger of collapse the answer was no but that since everyone else was asking they felt that they should get their fair share.

Joe Francis is quoted as saying that "the US government should actively support the adult industry's survival and growth, just as it feels the need to support any other industry cherished by the American people" While acknowledging that DVD sales a dropping web related traffic continues to steadily increase.

Larry Flynt says that while we can do without cars and other things for us to do without sex in our lives would be very unhealthy. He is further quoted as saying that "with all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind. It's time for congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America. The only way they can do this is by supporting the adult industry and doing it quickly."

At this time no reaction or response has been forthcoming from congress. One can only wonder which industry will be next to jump on the bandwagon and ask for a government handout.
