Crow -
Creature demonized by popular culture,
left-over primal fears
from forgotten and uneducated
pasts; most cringe at sight,
sound, of Crow - seeing a harbinger
of doom, mischaracterized
as the wolf despite traditions
of a guardian, keeper of sacred laws,
gifter of knowledge, of eloquence,
prophecy, boldness - but a few traits
Crow is said to possess,
to embody.
Still, even Bones with his knowledge
disregards what he knows, reason
traded for superstitious beliefs backing
portents of Crow and his brethren
as doom
and death.
Faulty, or not, their presence noted
only at moments of darkness; The Lone Crow
tapping at glass doors before a Mother's death -
tale straight from Poe come to life.
Three days now the murder gathers overhead.
Three days now they scream Bones' name
in the trees. Three days now and he wonders -
three days and Bones would know
what is it that comes yet unseen
on the wind...
